Mobilizations in Bilbao against the Economic Summit

Next 3 March Bilbao will host an Economic Summit that will meet, among others, Christine Lagarde, president of the International Monetary Fund, Angel Gurrea, secretary general of the OECD, several members of the European Commission (including Joaquin Almunia), Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the Eurogroup President, Mariano Rajoy (the Spanish Prime Minister), Inigo Urkullu (President of the Basque Government) and executives of multinational companies like Inditex, BBVA and Iberdrola.

Opposing he summit, ELA, alongsinde with other Trade Unions and social organizations of the GUNE alliance(*), has called a protest day on the same day. GUNE is leading a strong dynamic of mobilization and struggle against the policies of labor and social cuts in the recent years.

To
denounce the maximum responsibles for the policies that are condemning the majority of the society to precariousness and poverty, there will be two demonstrations in Bilbao, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, and there will also be a counter-summit that will be held in the auditorium of the University of the Basque Country (UPV), which will count on the presence among others, of Yayo Herrero, from Ecologists in Action and Mertxe Larrañaga, Professor of Economics at the UPV.
