ELA firmly condemns the US attacks against the people of Venezuela
The Trump administration has attacked civilian and military areas in the states of Miranda, Aragua, La Guaira and Caracas and captured President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. ELA shows its strongest condemnation of the military aggression that the US has perpetrated against the sovereign people of Venezuela. After months of aggression and dozens of deaths in the Caribbean Sea by the Trump administration against boats of Venezuelan origin and the threats made, the US has taken another step and has decided to intervene militarily.

With this attack on a sovereign country, the US is violating international law and is violating the principles of the UN Charter. Once again, the US uses force to try to promote governments that leave the sovereignty of the country, in this case Venezuela, and economic and natural resources such as oil, in their hands.

Moreover, this aggression is taking place at a time when the Venezuelan Government has called for peace and dialogue to prevent any kind of aggression by the United States.

The military attacks against Venezuela represent a serious threat to regional and global peace and stability. But once again the US government prioritizes its economic interests, and the attack of the Trump administration is not understood without the fight for global hegemony that the US is developing, in the face of a growing influence of China in Latin America.

In the face of this extremely serious situation, ELA demands that the US government halt the military escalation in Venezuela, and demands that the international community and all institutional leaders (EU, Government of the Spanish State and the Basque and Navarre Governments) take a stand against these attacks and press for their definitive cessation. In addition, the US must release Nicolás Maduro and his wife as soon as possible.

In the same way, ELA shows its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and the trade union and social movements of the country. In addition, ELA calls for participation in the mobilizations in solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their sovereignty.
