ELA will call a strike on October 15 to demand that businesses and the governments of Basque Country, Navarra, and Spain suspend relations with Israel

ELA will call strikes in Euskal Herria on October 15 to demand that governments and businesses suspend all relations with Israel. To this end, ELA will directly address the governments of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Iruña, and Madrid. ELA believes that all available tools must be used to stop the genocide against Palestine, and therefore, Basque parties must decide—in the parliaments of Vitoria-Gasteiz and Iruña and in the Spanish Congress—how far they will take this commitment. In other words, Basque parties must make the boycott of Israel a condition for supporting the Sánchez government in all votes.
For its part, ELA denounces the latest blackmail by Trump and Netanyahu against the Palestinian people, as well as the Spanish government's support for this maneuver.
ELA emphasizes that the Basque working class must pressure institutions and businesses to take measures to stop the genocide. And this must be done through their own initiatives: the Basque Country has demonstrated its capacity to mobilize in support of Palestine, with a different message: nothing can be bought or sold to Israel. InEuskal Herria, the demonstrations demand a total boycott of Israel, a message that ELA considers essential.
As has been done for the past 30 years when the calls come from Madrid, ELA proposed calling strikes on October 13 in Euskal Herria, with more specific and committed demands than those raised in the Spanish calls. ELA suggested that LAB call strikes outside the mobilizations that Spanish unions have organized to support the Sánchez government. However, LAB has refused and has prioritized holding strikes with Spanish unions.
Thus, and in the face of a genocide of such magnitude, ELA does not want to force the Basque working class to choose between different strikes, so it will call strikes for October 15th, with more concrete and effective content than those of the Madrid strike. ELA is also working to recruit other organizations to this option. Ultimately, the main objective is to sever all trade relations with Israel and take concrete measures to stop the Palestinian genocide.
