ELA joins the request for governments to support South Africa in the lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice

Jan 11, 2024
The union supports the demand of the International Coalition to Stop the Genocide in Palestine. Hundreds of social organizations and unions from around the world are joining this petition.

The Coalition considers it urgent to invoke the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to put an end to the bombing and war crimes being committed by the State of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

ELA has supported the request made to all governments in the world to support South Africa's initiative. The union considers that this initiative is absolutely consistent with the demand of the different organizations that in Basque Country and around the world are taking to the streets to demand the end of the occupation of Palestine.

ELA draws attention to the responsibility that all governments in the world have, but especially those of the European Union. South Africa's petition is a reminder that states have a moral and legal imperative to oppose the impunity with which the Israeli government is acting.
