Tens of thousands of people participated in the demonstration convened by unions, ELA among others, political parties and social organizations last saturday in San Sebastian under the slogan “Human rights, peace and resolution” to protest against the dispersion and the arrests of last monday.

The organizers denounced the police operation that led to the arrest of 16 people, including numerous lawyers that represent and defend Basque prisoners' rights.

These arrests came after tens of thousands of people demonstrated on saturday 10 January against the prison policy of the Government of Spain and the same day of the trial against 35 activists, charged only because of their political activities, should have begin in the National Court, and that are now without lawyers after the arrests.

According to ELA, these demonstrations are essential to end the policy of dispersion. A goal that, besides being necessary, is feasible, but mobilization of society is more than necessary.
