Ataques terroristas en Europa
Ángels Bosch; presidenta de la confederación de policía europea (Eurocop), ha dicho que Europa está tremendamente agradecida a los oficiales de policía por su perseverancia y dedicación en lo que se refiere a los ataques terroristas que se han sucedido en el continente.
Poco después de que uno de los sospechosos en los ataques de Barcelona y Cambrils, el 17 de agosto fuera abatido dijo:
“Esta tarde, agentes de policía de Subirat, aproximadamente a 50 km al oeste de Barcelona, han intervenido ante un ataque terrorista donde el sospechoso clave que actúo en el ataque del 17 de agosto en Barcelona, Yosunes Abouyaaqoup, ha sido abatido.
Al igual que los ataques de Cambrils, Abouyaaqoup llevaba un chaleco bomba, y los agentes han actuado con coraje para neutralizar la amenaza que suponía para las personas que estaban en el lugar.
El viernes 18 de agosto, agentes policiales de Turku, en Filandia, dispararon y neutralizaron la amenaza de Abderraman Mechkan, después de que asesinara a dos personas e hiriera a otras 8 en un ataque a cuchillo en la ciudad. Una vez más la valiente policía ha actuado sin dudarlo para prevenir más heridos y muertos.
La rapidez con la que se han desarrollado los incidentes de Barcelona, Cambrils, Turku y Subirats, ha puesto de manifiesto el poco tiempo del que dispone la policía para responder a este tipo de amenazas.
Sólo hace falta echar la vista atrás para ver el número de ataques terroristas en los últimos años, como el ataque el día de la Bastilla en Niza, el del Mercado de Berlin en navidad, el del aeropuerto de Bruselas, el de Drottninggatan en Estocolmo, o el del puente de Westminster en Londres, para ver unos pocos ejemplos de la valentía con la que actúa la policía.
Sabemos que el odio y la ideología que motivan a aquellos que perpetran estos actos terroristas no se puede vencer con facilidad y que en algunas situaciones encontraran la manera de promover sus ideales.
También sabemos que como ciudadanos europeos, no vamos a permitir que nuestra forma de vida y derechos sean coartados por el terrorismo. Nos intentan dividir, sin embargo nos están haciendo más fuertes.
No hay duda de que la ciudadanía de Europa debe un tremendo agradecidimiento a las mujeres y hombres de sus cuerpos de seguridad, que están en primera línea defendiendo nuestros derechos, y quienes continuarán poniendose en peligro para proteger las vidas de los demás.
European Terror Attacks
Àngels Bosch, president of the European Confederation of Police (EuroCOP) has said that Europe owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to its police officers in light of the persistent and sustained terrorist attacks on the continent.
Speaking shortly after one of the key suspects in the attacks on Barcelona and Cambrils on he 17th August was shot and killed Ms Bosch said;
“This afternoon police officers in Subirats, approximately 50km west of Barcelona, responded to a terrorist incident where the a key suspect in the 17th August attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, Younes Abouyaaqoub was shot and killed.
Similar to the attackers in Cambrils, Abouyaaqoub was wearing a suicide vest and officers displayed selfless courage to neutralise the threat he posed to those around him. On Friday 18 August police officers in Turku, Finland shot and neutralised the threat from Abderrahman Mechkah after he murdered 2 people and severely injured 8 others in a terrorist knife attack in the city. Yet again the bravery of the police officers undoubtedly
prevented more injuries and death.
The speed with which the incidents in Barcelona, Cambrils, Turku and Subirats unfolded has demonstrated that police officers have little time to plan their responses to these type of threats.
When need only look at any number of terrorist attacks over recent years, like the Bastille Day attack in Nice; the Christmas Market attack in Berlin; the Brussels Airport attack; the Drottninggatan attack in Stockholm, and the Westminster and London Bridge attacks in London to see countless examples of bravery by police officers.
We know the hate and ideology that motivates those who perpetrate these acts of terror is not easily overcome and that on occasions they will find ways to promote their ideals.
We also know that as citizens of Europe, we will not allow our way of life and freedoms to be undermined by terrorism. When they try to divide us we will come back stronger.
There can be no doubt that the citizens of Europe owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the men and women in their police forces who stand as the first line of defence of these freedoms and who continually find themselves in danger as they seek to protect the lives of others.”
